Don’t misuse Women’s Day – Election Commissioner

Government sponsored or other events being held in the light of the International Women’s Day which falls today should not be used for election propaganda purposes for the upcoming Local Government elections by candidates, Elections Commissioner Dayananda Dissanayake said.
The Elections Commissioner added that events such as the International Women’s Day were celebrated nationally and that it was illegal for Local Government election candidates to distribute, present or other material to gain popularity. He further noted that all party secretaries and independent groups have been notified of this by the Elections Department.
