Murder suspect killed in police fire

The main suspect in the murder of a gem businessman in Ratnapura last month has been shot dead during a confrontation with police officers this morning, Police Spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana said.
The businessman was murdered on February 13 in the Hindellana area in Ratnapura when he was returning home after work at around 7.00pm.
The police spokesman said that the suspect had attempted to open fire at police officers, who had accompanied him to uncover a stock of hidden weapons in the Melegama area in Ratnapura today (11).
However, the police officers had returned fire resulting in the suspect’s death, he said.
