A special ceremony was held at the Welikada Prison to mark National Prison Day on Monday.
The Chief Guest at the occasion was Minister of Rehabilitation and Prison Reform, Chandrasiri Gajadeera.
A poignant feature was the remembrance of prison officials who had passed away while on duty. Relatives of these prison officials placed floral tributes at the memorial erected in their honour.
A communique by the Ministry of Rehabilitation and Prison Reform stated that ceremonies were being held at all prisons in the country in view of the National Prison Day.
