Police open fire at a speeding car in Polgahawela
Police have opened fire at a speeding car that failed to comply with police orders to stop in Polgahawela a short while ago.
Three persons who were present in the car have been arrested.
Based on a tip-off received by the Polgahawela Police, a group of police officers on duty who were looking for a car that was transporting narcotics, had reportedly ordered the car travelling from the Kurunegala direction to stop.
However, the police officers had fired at the vehicle as it continued to move.
It is reported that the gunshot hit a tire of the car and the police officers had managed to stop the car after travelling around one kilometre following the shooting, and apprehended three individuals including two men and a woman who were travelling inside the car.
