Sri Lanka is in a moment of challenge and crisis but has an opportunity to create a more democratic and inclusive government, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on Thursday.
Blinken made the remarks in Cambodia at the start of a meeting with his Sri Lankan counterpart Ali Sabry, who said his country appreciates the U.S. role in securing support from the International Monetary Fund. The two were meeting on the sidelines of a regional gathering in Cambodia.

“more democratic and inclusive government”…. sure sure Blinken…. we are on of the oldest democracies in Asia with a parliamentary governance structure that’s elected by the people (people with universal franchise in the country) and oh by the way, the man you are dealing with here, our most stout, well-admired-by-Sri Lankans, Ali Sabry, the Foreign Minister of Sri Lanka who incidentally is from the minority Muslim (8%) community of Sri Lanka….and so, sure sure Blinken we will now open our mouths to gobble up more of what you said, only because YOU said so! What a hilarious drama this is!!! By the way Blinken, looks like you forget your cheque book as we were looking forward to not just gobbling up your sorta admonishing advice, but more eagerly, your greenbacks in plenty at that….alas, what a disappointment – no money no funny!
