Ugandan national arrested at BIA with Rs. 50 Million worth of cocaine pellets

A Ugandan national who allegedly swallowed around 90 cocaine pellets worth more than Rs. 50 million has been arrested at Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake.

The suspect is a 43-year-old Ugandan farmer.

According to authorities, he had swallowed the cocaine pellets in Entebbe, Uganda, before travelling to Doha, Qatar.

He later arrived at Bandaranaike International Airport yesterday morning (September 13) on Qatar Airways flight QR-664 and remained on the first floor of the airport until around noon.

Officers of the Customs Narcotics Control Unit arrested him following intelligence received by the unit.

While at the airport, the suspect expelled 13 cocaine pellets that he had swallowed.

He was later handed over to officers of the Police Narcotics Bureau at Bandaranaike International Airport.

The suspect is to be admitted to the Negombo General Hospital, where steps are being taken to recover the remaining cocaine pellets from his body.
