Ranil to make special statement On trade union demands
Prime Minister, Ranil Wickremesinghe is set to make a special statement in Parliament today on discussions he had with the representatives of Trade Unions over the weekend.
He will reveal what the demands of the trade unions are and the stance of the government regarding these demands. Wickremesinghe held a series of discussions with trade unionists on Saturday and Sunday to prevent a nationwide strike.
Trade Union representatives had threatened walking out on a nationwide strike tomorrow (15) unless the government addressed a number of concerns they had in relation to the budget. These include the scrapping of the pension from those who enter the government service from next year and the
Rs 10,000 allowance given to the State sector to be added on to their basic salaries.
