Twenty-two people were injured after a private bus travelling from Medirigiriya to Colombo veered off the Polonnaruwa-Habarana main road and overturned into a canal in Minneriya early today (September 10).
The accident occurred at around 4:45 a.m. near the Dewala Bend at the 7th Mile Post in Minneriya.
Minneriya Police said the injured passengers were admitted to the Habarana and Hingurakgoda hospitals for treatment.
The bus had left the road before falling into a nearby canal.
The area where the accident occurred is known to be accident-prone.
Minneriya Police are conducting further investigations into the accident.
