Indian Defence Minister visits Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Defence

Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh visited Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Defence at the Defence Headquarters Complex in Kotte on September 9, 2026 highlighting the strong and longstanding defence ties between the two countries.

During the visit, the Indian Defence Minister was accorded a ceremonial Guard of Honour and was warmly received by Deputy Minister of Defence Major General Aruna Jayasekara (Retd).

Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Defence Minister highlighted India’s longstanding support to Sri Lanka in many areas and the close defence cooperation between the two countries.

He expressed appreciation for India’s continued assistance to Sri Lanka, particularly during emergencies and other challenging situations.

Speaking at the event, Rajnath Singh said India and Sri Lanka share longstanding and close relations. He said the strong friendship and cooperation between the two countries would continue to grow in the years ahead.

Overlooking Secretary to the Ministry of Defence and Additional Secretary (Civil Security and Development) Indika Wijegunawardana, Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Santosh Jha, the commanders of the three armed forces, heads of institutions under the Ministry of Defence, members of the high-level Indian defence delegation and senior Defence Ministry officials were also present.
