Former Public Administration Secretary Priyantha Mayadunne arrested

Former Secretary to the Ministry of Public Administration, Priyantha Mayadunne, has been arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) today (January 30) over alleged financial misappropriation.

Former Secretary to the Ministry of Public Administration, Priyantha Mayadunne, who was arrested today by the CID over alleged financial misappropriation, was later granted bail by the Fort Magistrate’s Court.
The court ordered his release on personal bail of Rs. 200,000 after he was presented before the Fort Magistrate.
Mayadunne’s arrest is linked to the alleged misuse of Rs. 183 million from the Cooperative Fund for the ‘Isuru Saviya’ commemoration event in Kurunegala in 2011, held to celebrate International Cooperative Day.
Police Media Spokesperson SSP Buddhika Manatunga stated that the CID submitted its investigation findings to the Attorney General (AG), who found sufficient evidence to file charges against Mayadunne.
At the time of the alleged incident, he was an Additional Secretary to the Ministry of Co-operatives and Internal Trade.
The CID continues further investigations.
