Health workers to be given COVID booster shots
Booster doses of COVID vaccines will be rolled out to health workers in Sri Lanka, says the Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA).
The decision has been taken at a discussion between the GMOA and the Director-General of Health Services on Thursday evening (August 19).
Given the rapid spread of novel coronavirus recently, health workers are more susceptible to novel coronavirus infection, the GMOA has pointed out during the meeting.
Thereby, they have requested the Director-General of Health Services to consider administering an additional COVID vaccine shot to health workers.
According to reports, a decision has been taken to roll out the booster doses five months after administering the second dose.

Please! I implore, beg, kindly request Sri Lankan or any other medical expert inside or outside the country who read this forum to help me to save the tiny bit of the respect I have left for the Sri Lankan health experts and allied services big guns working within the country. Please explain why I am wrong GIVING REASONS and I will be grateful to you.
Please explain me the ignorant, why the Sri Lankan health workers who already have had the two vaccines already continuing to work in hospitals getting exposed to COVID virus more than rest of us need a booster vaccine to increase the immunity? Isn’t this daily exposure to the virus itself is not enough and as good as or better than the booster vaccine to keep their immune system primed and working? If I am correct, why the GMOA think a booster shot will provide the protection against new variant of the virus, unless the booster vaccine contains new RNA corresponding to the new mutations found in the new variants? Pleeeease! Somebody explain to me how a booster shot of current vaccine being currently given in SL can give extra protection to the current Sri Lankan health workers those who are getting exposed to the live virus on daily basis unless they have gone on holiday and stayed few months in a nice COVID-free area, before I start to believe it was a bloody fool who came up with the idea to waste a significant number of vaccinedoses before everybody in SL gets two shots of the vaccine.
