Jail break and rioting at Welikada

Several people are feared dead after a shootout between the STF and prison inmates a short while ago. The shootout had occured when inmates attempted to break out from the Prison.
The General Hospital said that 13 persons including 10 STF personel, 2 inmates and a jailor was admitted to the hospital.

Government should not let these criminals (prisoners) to continue their activities in prison and control the country.
The way STF and military forces controlled this riot is commendable. That has to be controlled at any cost.
Agree with you Basanayake, the Defence Secretary is keen on these issues. The Prisons are full of drugs, cell phones and weapons and the STF was only trying to enforce the law. The prisons Commissioner who is charge of the prisons should resign his job; his men on the ground can be bought for Rs 50 to turn a blind eye to the nefarious activities. The Defence Ministry has to spend valuable funds to inpose discipline in the Prisons and hence, the budgetary allocation for the Defence Ministry is growing every year. This is because officers such as the Prisons Commissioner are not doing the work they are paid to do.
