Maheswaran murder suspect sentenced to death

The chief suspect of the UNP MP T Maheswaran assassination was sentenced to death by Colombo High Court Judge Sunil Rajapaksha this morning.
The accused has been identified as Christopher Valentine.
Late T Maheswaran was the Colombo District United National Party (UNP) legislator and former Hindu Affairs Minister. He was shot dead at the Sri Ponnabala Vaneshwara Kovil in Kotahena on 1 January, 2008. The gunman who shot him was arrested when Maheswaran’s bodyguard returned fire and wounded him.
