Polls register on the web
Sri Lankan voters will get the opportunity to surf the web to check their name in the electoral register after August 15, Elections Commissioner General Mahinda Deshapriya said today.
This is the first time the electoral register of Sri Lanka is connected to the web and latest electoral register which has been compiled for 2011 will thus be able to check on the web, he said.
The facility will be a great service for Sri Lankans abroad as until now they did not have the opportunity to check their names in the electoral register.
“The 2011 electoral register is the final compilation of voters and they cannot apply for re-registration if their name is missing in the electoral register,” Mr. Deshapriya said.
However, they can apply for registration for the 2012 electoral register.

Nice Idea, Mr.Mahinda Deshapriya not like My Dayananda De Silva
This is a great initiative of the Elections Commissioner, Mr Mahinda Deshapriya which will enable wider participation in the oncoming elections. I hope this will be followed applications to register as a voter online and eventually voting via the internet. This initiative will shut-up the bankrupt opposition politicians who always allege electoral rigging of the voters register and the voting itself. The Secretary of the Green Elephant Party and Hon Lakshman Kiriella are known culprits in this regard. The Rajapaksas have made vast headway in open, honest and trasparent governance since 2005. The eradication of tamil terrorism is a result of this governance initiative. We can only hope the Rajapaksas govern our land forever and drive it towards the miracle of SE Asia.
Should have the e-voting system in future. Then hackers will try to become a president.
