TRAFFIC CONGESTION AT ENTRY POINTS INTO COLOMBO CITY – POLICE CCTV UNIT
November 11, 2010: Sever traffic congestion can be observed at the entry points into Colombo city, says the Colombo police Close Circuit Television (CCTV) unit.
Senior DIG Gamini Navarathne who is in charge of the unit, speaking to Newsfirst said that traffic congestion has built up at the Kelani bridge on the road leading into Colombo and that traffic flow has been hampered in the road leading up to Borella from the Kelani bridge, Bandaranayake round about and the Grandpass areas.
He added that traffic is moving very slowly along the Borella, Maradana and cemetary round about areas as well.
Meanwhile the police CCTV unit confirmed that the Thunmulla junction and the Gunasinghepura areas have been inundated owing to the overnight showers.
However there is no traffic congestion along the Galle Face road and the Fort and Pettah areas.
Senior DIG Gamini Navarathne went onto say that 27 areas of Colombo are being monitored via the CCTV network. He added that this unit is still in its experimental stages.

Heavy monsoon rains and flooding are now common disasters around the globe. Perhaps this is a symptom of the global warming created by man. I hope SL leads the field in finding solutions to the flooding and suffering of our citizens. Now on hindsight, isn’t it stupid to have built our Parliament at enormous costs in the middle of a lake/oya. It is now under water and damaged. I hope the crocs that swim in the water get rid of the JVP and other trouble-makers if they attend Parliament.
