US and Sri Lanka hold talks on fuel, power crisis

U.S. Embassy officials met Presidential Chief of Staff Prabath Chandrakeerthi in Colombo on Tuesday (March 31) to discuss Sri Lanka’s fuel and electricity crisis and ways to strengthen US-Sri Lanka ties.
Political and Economic Counsellor at the United States Embassy Anthony V. Pirnot and Head of the Political Unit Shailaja (Shai) Kim met Commissioner General of Essential Services and Chief of Staff to the President, Prabath Chandrakeerthi, yesterday morning (March 31) at the Presidential Secretariat in Colombo.
During the meeting, attention was drawn to the work of the Office of the Commissioner General of Essential Services and the guidelines issued by the office to manage the ongoing fuel and electricity crisis following the Ditwah disaster situation.
The discussions also focused on the Government’s approach to addressing the fuel and electricity crisis and the steps being taken in response to the current challenges.
Recalling the long-standing bilateral relationship between the United States and Sri Lanka, the two sides also held extensive talks on further expanding these ties in a mutually beneficial way in the future.
