Contrary to earlier belief, the Islamist Terrorist problem appears to be deeply rooted in Sri Lanka.
Intelligence alone will not combat this dangerous issue.
As is done in the West, we need to impose vigilant monitoring of madrasahs, funding and radicalisation of individuals, especially children.
Moreover arabisation is not conducive to Sri Lankan culture, in the same way that Sri Lankan culture is likely to clash with Arab culture in the Middle East.
Ideally, the Muslim community could retain their unique Sri Lankan Muslim identity without copying the Arabs, which may encourage them to lead less isolated lives.
We need to return to a united Sri Lanka before it’s too late.
None of us, including the Muslim community, can afford to be complacent to the terrorist threat or turn a blind eye.
Otherwise, there could be serious consequences for all of us!
