Over 45,000 people and 13,646 families have been affected by the recent floods in the Northern Province due to heavy rains and winds, the Disaster Management Center yesterday said.

President Maithripala Sirisena has instructed relevant authorities to provide immediate relief to the people affected by the heavy rains and floods that prevailed in the Mullaitivu, Mannar and Kilinochchi District.

Following the directives of the Office of Chief of Defence Staff and based on information from the Disaster Management Centre, naval personnel are currently engaged in relief and rescue missions in the districts of Mullaitivu and Killnochchi which are worst affected by the inclement weather condition.
