Karunanidhi slams war memorial in Sri Lanka
Chennai: Slamming the building of a victory memorial in northern Sri Lanka as an “uncivilised act” by the island government to “deliberately hurt” sentiments of Tamils, DMK chief M Karunanidhi today said such memorials would not help the peace efforts claimed to have been made by Colombo.
“The memorial and war museum are an uncivilised act of the Sri Lankan Government. These are not helpful to the peace efforts said to have been undertaken by the island government,” Mr Karunanidhi said in a statement.
Referring to reports about the memorial and a war museum near the place where the final phase of the war against the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Ealam (LTTE) was fought in 2009, the DMK chief said it was painful to know that everyday hundreds of Sri Lankans visited the memorial, which had been “erected by the Rajapakasa Government with the deliberate intent to suppress Tamils.”
“The government has erected the memorial at the place, where LTTE fought for 30 years and where innocent Tamils were killed,” he said, wondering whether such actions were aimed at uniting and ensuring the rehabilitation of the ethnic people.
In order to apprise bodies like the United Nations and other international agencies about the truth (the situation in Sri Lanka), the recently held Tamil Eelam Supporters Organisations headed by him passed 14 resolutions, Mr Karunanidhi said, adding, they would be submitted to the UN by senior party leaders MK Stalin and TR Baalu by the end of this month.
He also questioned the Centre’s “silence” on a Sri Lankan Minister’s assertion that India would continue to impart training to defence personnel from the island nation.
“Certain actions of the Indian government give rise to suspicion whether it was only keen on ensuring that it was one among the neutral countries in the world,” Mr Karunanidhi added.
He also reiterated his party’s continued opposition to imparting military training to Sri Lankan personnel in India.

It is right and proper for a war memorial to be built in the North to commemorate the ‘freedom won by the SL army in liberating the 400,000 plus Tamils held prisoner as a human shield by the very Tamil, so-called saviour, VP’. The North and East are not colonies of TN. So let this idiot and Big Mama shut their bloody gobs.I wonder how much they are being paid by the Tamil diaspora to make such silly utterances every now and then.

I would like to remind KaruN and ilk that SL has no need for a Tamil eelam. The Tamil tigers are now setthapochchi since May 2009, thanks to our heroic President, Defence Minister and our heroic security forces. I hope the the Tamil eelam supporters’ organisation was created by him in TN to fight for Tamil eelam in Tamilnadu for its 70 million Tamils, as it should rightly be. Neither Big Mama not KN has the guts to spearhead Tamil eelam/autonomy for TN, where it rightly should be. SL is not the home for their Tamil eelam state.
KN claims that GOSL erected a war memorial at the spot where LTTE fought and died to save innocent Tamils. Is this idiot blind and deaf? Does he not know that it was thousands of innocent Sinhala women from whom suckling babes were torn off and dashed on the ground by evil LTTE terrorists? The women were raped and their heads cut-off and hung on trees by their hair. The evil LTTE are now in hell in the company of other evil ment such as Hitler and Stalin, forever. Let them suffer for all eternity for their evil. KN andf Big Mama and other TN eelam seekers can also join them one day. But if they are spoiling for a fight our heroiuc SL security forces will be only too keen to elimninate them also, as the Indian security forces seem to be too weak to do so.
