MR says anyone has a right to form new party
Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday said nobody had a right to prevent the formation of new political parties.
Rajapaksa, addressing the Samurdhi officers at their 19th annual convention at the Samurdhi hall, Battaramulla said that it did not mean that he was planning to form a new party. However, threats and intimidation should not be directed against those who wanted to form new parties.
He said the government had become a pawn of the western powers and was bent on privatising state ventures and suspending the development projects launched by the previous administration.
“It is also deviating from Bandaranaike policies,” he said.
The incumbent government had come to power only for a two year period and now they had decided to extend the pact for five years, Rajapaksa said.
The former President said “We didn’t fight the Tamils or Muslims. The fight was against the terrorists and we created an environment to live as one nation, one country.”
The previous government had re-habilitated over 12,500 people and restored the infrastructure destroyed by the 30-year conflict. “We developed the Jaffna Hospital and there are 10 surgical wards on a single floor”, he said.
The percentage of students entering the Jaffna University had increased and the standard of education in the north had reached a higher level, the former President said.
He said the Sirisena-Wickremesinghe alliance had come to power promising a change, but it had failed to deliver.
Rajapaksa said even former Presidents J. R. Jayewardene and Ranasinghe Premadasa had also bellowed rhetoric towards the end of their governments.
“I have no hatred or anger. The incumbent government should work with more restraint,” he said.
“It is a right of the working class to strike and it is wrong to assault them,” Rajapaksa said.

so did anyone stop him from forming a new party, anyway who cares he can form any number, as the famous saying goes birds of a feather flock together all who follow you will be of the same caliber
Yes Mr. MR anyone can form a new political party. The thing is then, HE the president will release Top-secrets. Remember when you were the President you threatened to release the files!
aha oh yes, this country filled with secrets (files etc) even Hitler wouldn’t have have so much secret files
Of course Mr Rajapaksa,
Anyone can form a Political Party. I, unfortunately, have ‘Rajapaksa’ as my surname. However, when you decide to form the ‘Rajapaksa Pavul Pakshaya’, I will apply for membership.
As Mr Amarakoon says, you are the one who introduced the political culture where personal ‘shit’ files are kept in custody under the presidential nightclothes. Your successor is following your footsteps.
One must ask why is MY3 with holding some of the secrets and keeping them to him self. The bottom line is MY3 is still afraid of MR. That is why they keep making accusations over and over again. If MR and his clan ( which MY3 was a part of for a very long time) did steal then they should have been imprisoned by now and MY3 should be going ahead to keep all the promises he made without blaming MR for not being able to deliver on his promises.
If we do not have a strong leader soon the country will be ruled by the west and the tamils so for sure. Seems we are living in Tamil Nadu. All the government want to do is to please the Tamils in the North.
Dear S Fernando,
I sympathise with you.
As you say, the Sinhala Nation does need a strong leader, pretty soon; if not, the Nation will be colonised by Nisha Biswal, the American Secretary of State for Sri Lanka.
I suggest, Mr Fernando, in the next elections, the Sinhala Population should elect the Northern Chief Minister, Retd Judge C Wigneswaran as the President and Retd FM Sarath Fonseka as the Prime Minister.
That is the only way the kalla thoni’s can be given Federal State and all thieves incarcerated in the Welikada Prison (or, maybe, we can convert the Port City to a Prison and incarcerate all thieves in there).
You are brilliant, mate. Are you from Valvettithurai (Velu Land) where the fish from the lagoon stimulates brain function in many individuals to produce brilliant Science, Technology and Political thought?
Good Idea to make CM Wicky President so that we can give EP and NP as a Federal State to the kalla thoni’s and let them live there eating onions from Paranthan. We will build a wall along the boundary (just like the Trump wall between US and Mexico) to confine the kalla’s to the Fed State.
Then, good idea to covert Port City to Prison. We can transport all members of Political Parties including green, blue, red, yellow, betel leaf, swan, scissors, beads, lotus flowers (BTW: Wonder why a Political Party couldn’t think of a Vagina or a Penis and Testicles as a Party Election Symbol) whether in Parliament or not, be transferred to the Port City. We must work out a variaton to contract with the Chinese Company to build a “Panama Canal” and the Mailand so that these highfalutin, tired politicos could gather a good night’s rest in the arms of their beloveds.
Fernando, however, we will Aura Kumara with us, the peace loving citizens who remain this side of the wall.
Anura could do well as a Sub-Inspector of Police in the Kesbawa Police Command. Once he matures and learns the ropes on internal security, we can consider giving Anura Kumara a permanent job.
These Fools will never learn…
Small country like Sri lanka got about 142 parties. So another one don’t make much of a difference. This at least this give a chance fir us to get in to genius book of records.
Now the bastard has revealed that himself is the father of thieves. Btw, Where’s the media freedom now.? How and why not yet come to publish such important news article here…. http://mobile.abc.net.au/news/2016-08-24/australian-companies-embroiled-in-bribery-scandals/7778324?pfmredir=sm
