Opposition members withdraw from PSC

Opposition members of the Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC) probing the charges in the impeachment motion against the Chief Justice have withdrawn from proceedings as the chairman has rejected their conditions.
Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa, the chairman of the PSC, had refused to accept the conditions put forward by the opposition MPs to further remain in the panel.
They had also stated that the 11-member committee, dominated by ruling party MPs, does not follow formal procedures.
Ministers Anura Priyadarshana Yapa, Nimal Siripala de Silva, Susil Premajayantha, Rajitha Senaratne, Wimal Weerawansa, Dilan Perera and Neomal Perera represent the PSC from the ruling UPFA while MPs John Amaratunga and Lakshman Kiriella from the UNP, TNA’s R. Sampanthan and Vijitha Herath from the DNA make up its opposition members.
The Select Committee had convened at 1.30pm at the Parliament today (07).
