Visiting offices is not a presidents position.
Quite true Ranjith,
It is poor management practice and it does not work.
The person loses dignity.
There was a UNP MP, Palitha Thevarupperuma, who did similar things and beat up construction labourers with a shovel when they wer ‘not doing their job’.
Ranjith. I do not agree with your comment at all. Ofcourse, it is the duty of the President to visit any office, and make sudden visits without prior notice. That will keep all public servants on their toes. The President has set a very good example to all Ministers.
Public Servants should be managed through a formal ‘PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT’ system and not by infusing FEAR PSYCHOSIS.
In fact, infusing fear psychosis as a management tool on any human being is considered a breach of human rights.
Leila Mathew. You make some crazy statements !! How do you reckon it is poor management practice ?? I think otherwise. The person looses dignity !! How come ?? The President is doing a great job and more power to him I say. The President remains quite dignified in what he says (read his speech to the UN) and what he does. You quote a particular UNP MP who beat up construction workers – that’s a criminal act. No wonder the UNP did not get a SINGLE win at the last election !! – it has probably died a natural death.
Michael Fernando Of coerce he should take a cane with him and beat the staff pulling there trousers down like a old fashion school teacher punishing the naughty students.
It gimmicks just playing on the ignorant of the people because he has not got a clue to do anything better.
That Premadasa did the same thing. Did that made any difference to the country.

Dear all Prez has to do this sometimes. After all ‘seeing is believing’! Having said that, when HE will visit bulldozing archaeological sites? Sites where trees cut? Places where SL’s biodiversity threatened?
Amarakoon,
He did visit the Singharaja Forest devastation and instructed the Army to proceed with the construction of the road to serve a village of population 250.
So what? He should’t have given the Green Light to construct a road to connect this village where 250 folks live. After 25 years there would be more than 250 folks. Instead these people should have been relocated.
