Former Fisheries Deputy Minister Sarath Kumara Gunaratne had been arrested after he surrendered to the Negombo Police Station over an accident in which an individual was killed in 2002.
Earlier, Mr. Gunaratne’s driver was arrested over the accident.
However, the police had later received another complaint stating that the former deputy minister was driving the vehicle at the time of the accident.
Therefore, the court had issued an arrest warrant on Mr. Gunaratne. He had surrendered to the police through a lawyer this morning.
He was to be produced in the Negombo Magistrate’s Court.
