EXPLAINER: Why Sri Lanka’s economy collapsed and what’s next

Sri Lanka’s prime minister says the island nation’s debt-laden economy has “collapsed” as it runs out of money to pay for food and fuel. Short of cash to pay for imports of such necessities and already defaulting on its debt, it is seeking help from neighboring India and China and from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

The four-member high-level delegation headed by the Secretary to the Ministry of External Affairs of India, Vinay Kwatra arrived at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) at around 9:20 AM from New Delhi to hold discussions pertaining Sri Lanka’s economic situation.






Johnston Fernando released on bail over May 09 incident

Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) Parliamentarian Johnston Fernando who was named as a suspect in the case filed over the incidents that took place outside Temple Trees (Maina Go Gama) and in Galle Face (Gota Go Gama) on 09th of May 2022, was released on a new bail order by the Fort Magistrate’s Court today (June 22).
