The import tax on a kilo of potatoes has been increased by Rs.10 with effect from last night, while the tax on a kilo of sugar has been increased by Rs. 12, the Finance Ministry said today.
The special commodity levies have been increased with effect from midnight on September 08.
However, the ministry says that there will be no change in the market price of sugar.
“The import tax on potatoes was increased because the harvest of local farmers has started entering the market,” the ministry said.
