Urban development added to Defence Ministry
The Defence Ministry has been re designated as the Defence and Urban Development Ministry, Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunga told the Daily News yesterday. He said that the gazette notification in this regard was issued last week.
He noted that this revision was made in order to reflect the current tasks and missions of the ministry specifically.
He said that the Urban Development Authority was taken over by the Defence Ministry at a previous occasion for efficient management of urban development activities.
He observed that there is no change in institutions affiliated to the ministry from this revision.
He said that funds will be allocated from the budget 2012 to suit the new scope of the ministry. Accordingly financial allocations required for the smooth functioning of urban development projects and beautification programmes will be allocated directly to the Defence Ministry.

Will Duminda Silva’s supervision of the Defence Ministry be extended to Urban Development as well?
The Secretary to the Minstry of Defence and Urban Development needs to be supervised to ensure efficient delivery of services to the people of Sri Lanka and Colombo.
මේ අවධානයට ඇරයුම මාර්ග සම්බන්ධවයි…
ඉතා විශාල මුදල් කන්දරාවක් වැය කරමින් ඉක්මනින් ඉදිවන මාර්ග සම්බන්ධයෙන් අපේ ගරැ ගෝඪාභය ලේකම් තුමාගේ අවධානය යොමු කරනු වස් මෙසේ මතක් කර සිටිමි. මෙම ඉදිවන මාර්ග නිම වූ පසු වෙනත් කටයුතු සඳහා නැවත කැඩීමකට ලක් නොකරන ආකාරයක් ගැන තවමත් අපේ රටේ නොමැති බව පෙනෙනකොට අපගේ හිතට කණගාටුවක් දැනේ. හොඳින් සකස් කළ මාර්ග ජල සම්පාදනයෙන් හෝ විදුලිබල මන්ඩලයෙන් හෑරීම හා ඒවා නිවැරදිව වසා නොයාම නිසා ජනතාව මහත් අපහසුතාවයකට පත්වෙන අවස්ථා දැක ඇත්තෙමි.
අසා ඇති පරිදි මෙම ආයතන දෙකම මුදල් ලබා ගනුයේ කැඩූ මාර්ග නැවත පිළිසකර කර දීමටත් එක්කය. එහෙත් මේ අය හෝ එම සේවාවන් ලබා ගන්නා අය හෝ එහි නැවත පිළිසකර කිරීම පිළිබඳව කිසිදු ක්රියා මාර්ගයක් නොගනී. මේ නිසා මාර්ග තදබදයද,වාහන අබලන්වීමද ඇතිවේ. සියල්ලටම වඩා පරිසරයට ඇතිවන අවලක්ෂණය ඉතා වැඩිය. එහෙයින් මේ පිළිබඳ වගකිව යුත්තන් සොයා ඒ ගැන නැවත සිදු නොවා ක්රියා මාර්ගයක් ගන්නා මෙන් රටට ආදරෙන් ඉල්ලා සිටිමි.
මේ විනාශ වෙන්නේ අපේම මුදල් බැවින්, ඒවා ඵලදායීව වියදම් කරන්නට රජයට උපකාර කිරීම කාගේත් යුතුකම හා වගකීම වන හෙයින්, වැරදිම තැනට නැවත නොවන්නට නිසි පිළියම් යොදවන මෙන් ඉල්ලමි.
