Will support candidate who can face Islamic extremism firmly
Parliamentarian Ven. Athuraliye Rathana Thera said yesterday he would support, at the next presidential election, the candidate who could face Islamic extremism firmly.
The Thera told a news conference that the presidential election should be held without delay and added that people would respond to the government for failing to address the Islamic extremist issue.
“Whoever was nominated as the presidential candidate, we will support the one who can address Islamic Terrorism firmly. Madrasas should be abolished. There should be a clear policy on agriculture, energy and education sectors,” he said. Ven. Rathana Thera said the government was suppressed by Islamic extremism and added that it had failed to implement law against Dr. Shafi and M.A.L.M. Hisbullah.
“The two police officials involved in the probe on Dr. Shafi were transferred just because implementing the law against him.”

Ven Rathana, have you measured how much support you have? 500 votes from your village?
I say you have zero support amongst voters.
Your credibility, my dear Ven. Athuraliye Rathana Thera, is ZERO because you went to Parliament under UNP list and you have been screwing not only the UNP but the entire population.
So, please go back to school and learn the Lord Buddha’s teachings before you flaunt.
This person is an insult to the Yellow Robe which he adorns.
He is an insult to the the rich culture of Theravada Buddhism spanning 2500 years.
He is a terrible insult to the noble teachings of the Lord Buddha.
the only means through which the sinhalese could determine its destiny is through solidarity. As is half the sinhala population votes for the UNP and UNP serves the minorities essemtially the muslims and the tamils. The irony is half the muslims elected to parliament is through muslim vote!
Spot on Sama. that is the truth. Other than that, Muslim politicians such as Hakeem always with the Government occupying some powerful ministries. They come with block Muslim votes and making deals. Some people were crying about 2,500 years of Theravada Buddhism. But they never cru about physical destruction and encroachment of Buddhist temples & archaeological sites by Muslims!
