Sri Lanka to standardize time

The government has decided to officially gazette Sri Lanka’s local time as the standard time. According to reports this has been decided due to clocks in various parts of the country and time announced by various media depicting the time in different minutes.
The task has been assigned to the Measurement Units Standards and Services Department while the new standard time will be declared at midnight on 31stDecember and will be in use from the start of the year 2011.
