Sri Lankan University Students’ protest march tear-gassed in Colombo

Sri Lanka Police used tear gas and water cannons to disperse the protest march staged by the students of the Inter University Students Federation (IUSF) at the entrance to Bank of Ceylon Mawatha, Colombo.
A massive anti-government rally organised by the IUSF kicked off near the University of Kelaniya this afternoon (July 08).
Thousands of students demand for the immediate resignation of Sri Lanka President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.
Earlier today (July 08), the Colombo Chief Magistrate rejected a request made by the police, seeking a restraining order to prevent the IUSF protestors from entering several roads in the Cinnamon Garden police area.

How many ‘Andare’ leaders during the last 3-4 decades have gone to the parliament or have gone to serve the country in some significant way? Useless donkeys causing mayhem instead of doing their first responsibility, that is to get educated and study well. To have a big say, what service have they done for the country by the time they enter university education? It is because of the opportunistic senile bastXXed polititians keep telling that the country belongs to them. Country belongs to the people those who have work hard and made some contribution, not to the buffoons running amuck.
Brother Ranjith I am not sure all these guys who got Tear-gas treatment were University students (from IUSF)! Some say there are university students who spent more than 8 years in their respective campuses. Yes, most of them underwent inhumane ragging and they continue doing so for newcomers. Hope the tear gas went to their heads and purified the empty spaces there.
Mr Amarakoon. Actually this a challenge and good opportunity for every Sri Lankens to find a solution for the current problems. No food. no fuel. no gas. What more you want. The best opportunity for you to find a solution for these problems. The country is bathing with sunshine and reach up to 40c can’t they find way to use this energy to heat water and use steam turbine to generate electricity. Instead of this silly demonstrations can’t they grow like the rest of the world. That’s what the university students do in other countries. They find solutions to the problems. Not how to rag or cram up a book and pass useless exams.
You are right Brother Ranjith, Our universities produce graduates through the free education system. They under go inhumane ragging and get brain washed. And as you correctly stated cramp books and get through the exams. Subsequently, demanding the government to employ them rather than being creative and find a productive way of living. They do not find solutions to prevailing problems but rather be part of the problem.
Little brainless bastXXds don’t even realise it is the suffering public who contributed towards their monthly allowance have to pay for the tear gas too. If they can change the government by demolishing police barriers, it would have happened by now. The truth is real leaders in hiding or disguise keep prodding these donkeys to go and riot, expecting one or more get killed, then to ride the public anger to the seat of the power. Whatever the solution is for the current problem, it only comes when the oil prices in the world market goes down and SL foreign currency reserves get filled to the necessary level. Until somebody comes up with the solution and produce the plan to be scrutinised, the government should not be changed since there is no ground for the change. If Gotha and Ranil are useless, then those who yearn to get power should unveil their plans first.
Indra. There is no solution to this problem who ever comes to power. If (IMF) is the only solution forget it. That JR bastaed time the government borrowed so much from foreign countries and it continued with the corrupted governments which followed and the Sri Lankens had a good time spending money like no tomorrow. Now they have to pay back and face the music. So the only solution to go back to pre JR time and build the country from scratch. T
The stupid SL voters are paying for their decision to usher the executive president who could not only change one’s sex, and for dumping all the good work Sirima did , including making the country self sufficient in food. Then After the first term of Mahind Rajapaksha, they ate all the poison fed by the parties whose only agenda was to get him out, but nothing, and wasted another 5 years the country coukd have developed, doing nothing but bickering among themselves, storing paddy in Mattala airport and stopping – starting the projects already begun. We would have never been here if the stupid voters thought and looked for the facts before casting their vote. I love to see the mob toppling current government, because the people want power going to usher them into a PolPot era in Sri Lanka, Already we can see how the mob beginning to control trains from Matara station and petrol sheds.
