Army Commander to testify again before PSC

Army Commander Lt. Gen. Mahesh Senanayake has been summoned to testify for a second time before the Parliament Select Committee probing the Easter bombings when it next meets on Wednesday, July 31 morning. Former Defence Ministry Secretary Kapila Waidyaratne is also scheduled to appear before the Select Committee on the same day.






Sirisena-Mahinda talks on the cards to discuss way forward on proposed new alliance

President Maithripala Sirisena was expected to meet Opposition Leader, Mahinda Rajapaksa, for a crucial discussion to work out the modalities on forming a new alliance between the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) and Sri Lanka Podu Jana Peramuna (SLPP), General Secretary of the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA), Mahinda Amaraweera said.










Dr. Shafi granted bail

Dr. Mohamed Shafi, who is accused of allegedly amassing assets through suspicious means, performing illegal sterilization surgeries and having links to terrorist activities, has been granted bail this evening (25) following a lengthy trial.

Senior Superintendent of Police Shani Abeysekera, Director of the Criminal Investigation Department told the Parliament Select Committee on the Easter bombings yesterday that extensive investigations into the activities of Zahran Hashim by the CID had led them to Lactowatte, where the haul of explosives found was sufficient to make 25 or more bombs.
