Sri Lankan Tamils asked not to brush issues of social justice under the carpet

Former Sri Lankan parliamentarian Murugesu Chandrakumar, who recently quit the Eelam Peoples’ Democratic Party (EPDP), has said that social injustice is rampant among Lankan Tamils, and that it is time they stopped brushing this grave issue under the carpet on the specious plea that bringing it out will jeopardize “Tamil unity”.







UN experts on torture and justice system in joint visit to Sri Lanka

United Nations human rights experts Mónica Pinto and Juan E. Méndez will carry out a visit to Sri Lanka from 29 April to 7 May 2016 to assess recent developments and identify challenges related to the use of torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment, and to the independence of the justice system, UN said in a release.





Sampanthan, others storming army camp: Probe hushed up

Police investigations into a complaint that a group of more than 50 persons led by Opposition and TNA Leader R Sampanthan forcibly entering an army camp at Paravipachchan in Kilinochchi on April 16 have been stalled as the army has been ordered not to pursue the case.
