Lankan smuggler gets 14 years in Jail in India

The Special Judge of the Additional Special Court in India sentenced two narcotic smugglers including a Sri Lankan national to 14 years imprisonment and also slapped a fine of Rs 1.4 lakh for smuggling narcotics into the country, Indian media reported.



‘Traffic congestions burn Rs. 1 billion every day’

Minister of Megapolis and Western Province Development Patali Champika Ranawaka, keynote speaker at the National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka’s ( NCCSL) ‘ Meet the Minister’ discussion last week said, ‘ Traffic jams burn approximately one billion rupees worth gasoline and other fuel products every day.’

Yoshitha Rajapaksa arrested by FCID

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s son, Lieutenant Yoshitha Rajapaksa, has been arrested by the Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID) and is expected to be produced at the Kaduwela’s Magistrate’s Court.









India awaits Lanka nod to execute rail projects

IRCON International, the Indian Railways’ construction company, is awaiting the Sri Lankan government’s nod to execute US$ 468 million worth of railway construction projects in the island nation, the company’s outgoing country representative, Shyam Lal Gupta, told newspersons in Colombo.
