SLFP committee decides on MR for PM post

The six-member committee appointed by the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) has unanimously decided to nominate former president Mahinda Rajapaksa as the party’s prime ministerial candidate no matter what President Maitripala Sirinsena’s views are on this matter, informed sources said.

President Maithripala Sirisena’s stand was that ex-President Mahinda Rajapaksa would not be made the Prime Ministerial candidate, nor be appointed as a National list MP nor be given nomination, Cabinet Spokesman, Health and Indigenous Medicine Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne said.





JVP on protest march today

The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) will be having a protest march today (18) demanding that the government respect the people’s mandate by fulfilling the many promises made to the masses, which they have presently put on the backburner.




Dhal prices reduced

The special commodity levy on imported Dhal has been reduced from Rs 5 to 25 cents per Kg while levy on oils – except coconut oil – has been increased from Rs 90 to 110 per kg from today.



No bail for Sajin

Obama here by year end?

Plantation Industries Minister Lakshman Kiriella yesterday said that US President Barack Obama is to pay an official visit to Sri Lanka at the end of this year. He said the US President has promised to visit Sri Lanka at end of this year.
