Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena’s move to sack Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has plunged the island nation into a constitutional crisis, with Mr Wickremesinghe still refusing to leave the prime minister’s official residence, Temple Trees, in Colombo.

Sri Lankan Rupee has depreciated further against the US Dollar, informed the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL).

President Maithripala Sirisena had said that Parliament likely to be re-convened on Monday, November 5, Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa said.

President Maithripala Sirisena has said that he would neither let the North and East to be merged nor allow the country to be a federal state.

Following a letter sent to the Attorney General, President’s Counsel Jayantha Jayasuriya, by Speaker Karu Jayasuriya, seeking his opinion on the current political crisis that arose over the appointment of Mahinda Rajapaksa as the new Prime Minister, without convening the Parliament to decide on it, the AG responded that he considered giving an opinion on the appointment of the Premier as ‘inappropriate’.

The United States weighed in Wednesday on a political crisis that has engulfed the Indian Ocean island nation of Sri Lanka since the president abruptly fired the prime minister and replaced him with an authoritarian former leader who has been accused of serious human rights abuses.

The Official Residence of the Prime Minister Temple Trees went into few minutes of tension today, when two men claimed to be from the office of newly appointed Prime Minister, came claiming to get an inventory of the items that were in the premises.
