The alliance supporting Sajith Premadasa stretches across the religious, ethnic and ideological spectrum, encompassing Buddhists, Tamils, Muslims and Christians. The nomination is expected to be endorsed by the alliance partners in the United National Front, including the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC), All Ceylon Makkal Congress (ACMC), the Tamil Progressive Alliance (TPA) and Jathika Hela Urumaya (JHU).

Public sector salaries to be increased from January
As per the recommendation of the Special Commission on reviewing salaries of the public sector appointed by the President, the monthly salary of all public servants are to be increased by a minimum amount of Rs.3000 and a maximum of Rs.24,000 per month effective from January 2020, the Finance Ministry says.

Chandimal to join Army to play cricket
Sri Lanka’s reputed cricketer, Dinesh Chandimal has consented to join the Sri Lanka Army as a Commissioned Officer to play cricket for their team. He is to be enlisted to the Volunteer Force as a Commissioned Officer of its Ordnance Corps, according to the Army Cricket Committee.

Navy Commander Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva yesterday signed President Maithripala Sirisena’s order re-instating former President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s second son Yoshitha as a lieutenant in the Sri Lanka Navy with effect from 28 February 2016, Navy Spokesman Lieutenant Commander Isuru Sooriyabandara said.
