President’s May Day Message

I am pleased to send this message on the occasion of May Day – International Workers Day, expressing the solidarity of the working people of Sri Lanka with workers throughout the world.



May Day Message of the Prime Minister

We must line-up to build our country, through a sustainable development process and to make the lives of our people prosperous. Workers are the pioneers of that process. We all are well aware of the truth that, their labour is decisive in making the future of a country, said Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe issuing the May Day message.

S. Udaya Sri the girl serving a two year prison sentence for scribbling on the Sigiriya Mirror wall who received a Presidential pardon has been released a short while ago.



Rathgama PS Chairman murder weapon found

Rathgama Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman Manoj Pushpakumara Mendis was shot dead in a hotel in the Wewala area in Hikkaduwa on 23 March midnight, whilst two other individuals were critically injured in the incident.





19A shuts out Gota

The 19th Amendment to the Constitution, which was passed in Parliament on Tuesday with an overwhelming majority, has barred former Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa from contesting Parliamentary elections.




Hambantota Mayor arrested

Hambantota Mayor Eraj Fernando arrested for allegedly attempting to assault a suspect in police custody in March, 2014, Police spokesman told media.




All contributed for 19A – PM

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe stated that all in the parliament contributed to the historic 19th Amendment that made the executive president responsible to the Parliament through the Cabinet following the passage of the Amendment.



19th Amendment passed with a vast majority

The 19th Amendment to the Constitution was passed with a vast majority in Parliament, a short while ago on Tuesday (28), with the government gaining 211 votes in favor of the amendment while 01 voted against it, 01 member abstained from voting. 10 members were absent.





Basil granted 3 months leave

Parliament has approved three(03) months leave for MP Basil Rajapaksa commencing from today (28). The approval was granted on a proposal made by Opposition leader Nimal Siripala De Silva.
